Acknowledge the Past, Learn for the Future

The theme of the clinical workshops, "Acknowledge the Past, Learn for the Future," encapsulates the reflection, growth, and forward-thinking within the field of occupational therapy. This theme invites participants to honour the rich history and foundational principles of occupational therapy while leveraging past experiences and lessons to inform future practice and innovation.

Through this theme, attendees are encouraged to explore the evolution of occupational therapy, recognise the contributions of pioneers in the field, and understand how historical context shapes current practice.

Additionally, participants are prompted to critically examine current challenges and opportunities, seeking insights and strategies that can propel the profession forward into an increasingly complex and dynamic healthcare landscape.

By acknowledging the past and learning from it, participants can cultivate a deeper appreciation for the profession's roots while embracing a proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and adaptation to meet the evolving needs of clients and communities.

The logo, designed by Wellington artist Kauri Brown, shows the relationship between the past, the present and the future. The blue fern at the bottom acknowledges our past. The association has been formed through the good will, collegiality and input of many occupational therapists across the motu.

The blue koru turned on its side in the middle is an expression of where the association has been recently. The changes in practice, in the profession and also in the purpose the association serves has all shifted in recent years.

The green fern on the top is a way to mihi towards healthy growth that we have started. Post Covid we have been able to have one in person conference which was the water to the seeds previously planted. Having in person connection, kanohi ki te kanohi, and growing together as people and professionals will create a strong future for occupational therapy.
